If you are a trucker and are operating in the state of California, you are required to register with the CHP (California Highway Patrol) and obtain your CA # number.

You must then display this unique CA number on both sides of your truck in a strong bold font 2-inch lettering. Your lettering must be visible from at least 50 feet away.

Below is an example of a compliant CA & USDOT truck sign. It displays the company name, the city where they are doing business out of and their CA number.

You don’t want to give DOT or CHP any reason to pull you over.

Be compliant & display all of your information.

How To Get Your Physical USDOT Number Decal After Getting Your Entity Assigned By FMCSA

      USDOT assigned letter

After you get your application approved by FMCSA and get assigned a unique USDOT number, you will need to place your assigned USDOT number on your commercial vehicle. A lot of first-time applicants believe that they will be receiving a sticker decal to their registered address, but this is not the case. You will need to order your own physical decal and place it yourself on your vehicle. You can order your USDOT number decal from us (the experts in USDOT Truck Lettering) or a local sign shop. Keep in mind that local sign shops will charge a ridiculous amount since they are normally busy.

A few things to keep in mind when ordering your custom USDOT number decal,

      • Your USDOT number must be at least 2 inches in height
      • It must be on both sides of your commercial vehicle
      • It must be visible from a distance of at least 50 feet
      • It must contrast with the color of your vehicle

If you have any questions, our team would be more than happy to help.
