Below is an example of a California CHP CA number decal for commercial vehicles operating within the state of California.

 A few tips to follow,

• Your CA number must be visible from at least 50 feet away

• The lettering must be at least 2 inches in height

• Must contrast with the color of the vehicle

• Must be placed on both sides

If you are a trucker and are operating in the state of California, you are required to register with the CHP (California Highway Patrol) and obtain your CA # number.

You must then display this unique CA number on both sides of your truck in a strong bold font 2-inch lettering. Your lettering must be visible from at least 50 feet away.

Below is an example of a compliant CA & USDOT truck sign. It displays the company name, the city where they are doing business out of and their CA number.

You don’t want to give DOT or CHP any reason to pull you over.

Below is an example of a professional USDOT compliant truck sign. The sign displays the name of the company, their assigned USDOT number, their MC (Motor Carrier) number, their CA number and the Gross Vehicle Weight of their commercial truck which is 80,000 lbs.

A few things to keep in mind, is that the lettering must be at least 2 inches in height, and it must be displayed on both sides of the power unit. It also must contrast with the color of the vehicle. You want to make sure all of your information is up to date. You don’t want to give CHP or DOT any reason to pull you over and put you out of service.
